The Random Word Generator Diaries – Scream

*Every week (ish) Rick uses a random word generator to pick a topic, and rambles on about it using related stories, thoughts, and questionable facts he thought he heard somewhere.  Once finished he’ll look up the actual definition and see if he was in the ballpark.

Random word: Scream

Hi everyone (no one?) welcome back to me after a few weeks of being lazy.  Let’s talk about screams.  Pretty much everyone knows what a scream is, but it’s kind of hard to describe.  I think it’s an audible involuntary reaction to a surprise (or to the Beatles.)  That sounds pretty good.  I guess it’s not that hard to describe at all.

The song “Scream” by Michael and Janet Jackson is pretty easy for me to describe: Cash Grab.  I am a fan of their works individually, but oh boy do I not enjoy this one.  The music video was both of them pretending to be angry while breaking their things in a live action version of Super Glove Ball.

Shamon!

Shamon!

My lovely wife and I went to Universal Studios (a classist institution) this past October and hung out there for the Halloween Horror Nights attraction.  This was an excuse for them to close the park early and make people pay extra money for spooky stuff and access to some rides after hours.  We went into one of the haunted houses, and it turns out Jen actually gets scared by them!!  She forcefully pulled me through it like there was a chance we might actually get killed by these “working actors.”

This guy?...

This guy?…

She was able to snag that picture of me making fun of these silly people and how not scary all of this was.  Right after she snapped it the person saw her taking a picture and started walking towards her, and she took right the fuck off.   I don’t know if there is anything more fun than seeing your wife run away, terrified of someone hoping to get their Equity card.

So, do you have the same benefits as AFTRA?

Maybe it’s not fair for me to talk about Jen getting scared, so to balance it I will reveal one of my fears:  I am afraid of Jen reading this article and getting mad at me for talking about our Halloween Horror Nights experience.

I find costumed characters to be delightful.

I find costumed characters to be delightful.

She will most likely see this since she is one of my two regular readers (again, I checked the stats.)  I suppose that I could delete that portion of the article, but the point of this blog is to be rambling and if I hit that backspace key I would be doing a disservice to my regular readers, which is probably just her (I assume the other regular reader is me when I check to make sure it posted.)    This is complicated.  I guess to be safe I will do something really upsetting to take the focus off the HHN story…   so, here’s a risqué picture she texted me:

Hubba hubba, that ought to up the reader count.

Wrap it up, Canavan!

Hey Rick, I really enjoyed this article today. I can’t really afford to give you a raise as the website makes zero dollars but if that ever changes I’ll make sure to keep in mind that this article was longer than your previous works.

Anyway, I thought the article this week was a real scre…. ahhh, I mean it was funny.
